Another diagnostic application for this condition is Qi stagnation. Qi stagnation headaches and migraines are characterized by a variety of symptoms. This type of pain comes and goes and often moves to different locations. It is common to lodge in the back of the neck, side of the head, or behind the eyes. In severe cases, nausea and dizziness are present. Irritability, sensitivity to light, and waking up between 1:00 – 3:00 am are commonly associated with this syndrome. Acupuncture is well suited to resolve this condition. I use a special acupuncture technique to move the Qi (energy) through the acupuncture channels often resulting in immediate relief. With follow-up care, a long-standing illness of this nature can be resolved permanently. In cases where a history of neck injury affecting the spine and nerves combines with Qi stagnation, acupuncture can eliminate the pain and/or dizziness and can prevent further flare-ups with a few follow-up visits per year. Dizziness often presents without headaches. Qi and Blood deficiency and Qi stagnation may be the source and acupuncture & herbal medicine are highly effective. In cases of inner ear fluid congestion, acupuncture can quickly dry the turbid fluids from the interior and restore normal balance. Acupuncture is also beneficial in the treatment of positional vertigo. This is the type of dizziness that occurs when the head is placed a specific position. In western terms this is usually called BPV (benign positional vertigo) and is associated with conditions such as inner ear disorders and nerve inflammation. In Chinese medicine, this is readily treatable with acupuncture and typically responds quickly. Interestingly, herbal medicine combined with acupuncture is very successful in the treatment of Ménière’s disease. This disease of the inner ear causes vertigo, tinnitus (ear ringing), and sometimes hearing loss or deafness. Chinese medicine has a solid track record for over 800 years for successful treatment of this disorder. In some forms of this disorder, a very special herbal formula called Ban Xia Bai Zhu Tian Ma Tang combined with a few acupuncture visits is enough to eliminate this disorder. The treatment of headaches, migraines, and dizziness has been successful with acupuncture for a very long time. The clinical track record is solid and modern research supports treatment. If you, or anyone you know, suffers from these ailments, have them call me at my office to discuss medical options. My patients who have overcome these disorders look and feel very differently about their lives once they leave the pain and suffering behind. I enjoy the look on their faces when they are no longer facing or even dreading the next flare-up. What a difference! |
